A damaru is a two-headed drum shaped like an hourglass. This smaller drum is usually made of wood, with a leather drum head. It has also been known to be made out of human skulls.
In India, the damaru is known as a power drum, and when played it tends to bring spiritual energy. The damaru has beads fastened to leather cords that are around the waist of the drum. By using a twisting wrist motion, these beads are struck against the head of the drum. Often, knots are tied in the leather and used as strikers as well.
