The madal is a hand drum which originates in Nepal. It is made of wood or clay. Both heads are played, holding the madal drum horizontally. The madal produces an enthralling rhythmic sound that is a necessity at weddings in Nepal.
A madal is shaped like a circular glass with one end slightly smaller than the other. The base or the larger end of the madal produces a low sound while the other end produces a higher pitched sound.
