Bagpipes Irish Flutes Chanters

Music has always been an important part of Irish life, even from the ancient days of the Celts. Irish music has lasted through the centuries, keeping many of its conventional aspects and affecting several forms of music through present day.

The Celts had an oral culture, where religion, legend, and history were passed from one generation to the next by way of stories and songs. Because of this we are able to recognize and play this style of music today.

From 1850 to 1918 over one million Irish immigrated to the USA. Irish musicians who were successful in the USA made recordings that found their way around the world and re-invigorated musical styles back in the homeland. Irish music has remained vibrant through the 20th, and into the 21st century.

Today, traditional Irish bands like The Chieftains, the Clancy Brothers, and Tommy Makem are gaining worldwide popularity. Their music is produced with instruments that have been used for centuries, including the fiddle, the uilleann pippes, the tin whistle, and the bodhran.
