Lute

The western European lute has a rich history traced back to the Ud, an Arabic instrument used since at least the 6th century. The lute has countless varieties, including the rebab, the North Indian Sitar , the Japanese shamisen, the theorbo, and the chitaronne. The traditional lute was one of the most important instruments of the Renaissance, played in solos, ensembles, or to accompany dances or vocals. The European lute typically has a rounded body composed of steamed and bent strips of wood, a single ornate sound hole, and a long neck bent at the end at nearly 90 degrees. Lutes are frequently made of a mix of hard and soft woods such as rosewood, fir, pine, and spruce. The sound is clear and distinct, yet relatively soft. The lute's tuning (from bass to treble) is as follows:
DD FF GG CC FF AA DD G This lute features: Rosewood body dark and light staves, 8 course, 15 strings, 4 fixed and 8 movable frets, rosette carved in light spruce soundboard. Includes case and "Learning to Play the Lute" book. 27" x 12.5" x 6" Hear the Lute on "The Royal Family of the Spanish Guitar" at Amazon.com.  READ MORE
